Welcome to Our WebQuest

Welcome to Our Pumpkin Patch!

Welcome to our pumpkin patch. When you move through our pumpkin patch, you will use fun and engaging videos, stories and activities to learn about how pumpkins grow.  Along the way, you will also learn some very neat things about pumpkins.  Our pumpkin patch is designed as a WebQuest.  A WebQuest is a collection of activities that are from the internet.  The activities will get you to think deeply and help you to actively learn about pumpkins.  Once you have gone through our Pumpkin Patch, you will have a very important job!  The farmers at Smolak Farms need your help to pick the perfect pumpkin.  Are you ready to be a pumpkin farmer?

Educational Value of Animoto

Can you answer the question the video asked you?

Do pumpkins come in different sizes?

The answer is yes!
Pumpkins come in many sizes. In the short video you just watched I showed you pictures of small, medium, large, and GIANT pumpkins.

I used a web tool called Animoto to make the video to show you the different sizes pumpkins can grow to. Animoto allows the creator to use pictures or video to share an idea with others. We can learn a lot about the sizes of the pumpkins by looking at the pictures. I like to use real life pictures to show you how the pumpkins grew to their sizes.

The creator can add titles and other words to show people more about their idea they are sharing about. I was able to pick the music and theme that my video has. I picked the leaves falling in the background since pumpkins are harvested in Fall.

When we come back from our field trip to Smolak Farm's Pumpkin Patch we can use Animoto to make a video to show our school the best pumpkins we picked.

Educational Value of Wordle

Look what I made you! A Wordle!

A wordle is a design made with words. All the words that I put into the design I made you are important to our learning about Pumpkins and how they grow.  Can you see how big the word pumpkin is? Pumpkins are what we will be learning about when we use this WebQuest.  The smaller words tell you about how the pumpkin will grow.  I made the words air, water, and soil a little bigger because without them the pumpkin could not grow.

You can try to make a Wordle at home about something you know a lot about like Fall or a farm. Visit www.wordle.net and make a word list and see what wonderful design you can make!
